Conflict Resolution Mechanisms and Grievances for Committees and Boards Policy

Policy overview

1 Purpose

To provide guidance on the conflict resolution mechanisms and grievance procedures for committees and boards

2 Scope

Members of any USQ Committee or Board

3 Policy Statement

3.1 Vice-Chancellor's Executive (VCE)

In the event that the Vice-Chancellor declines to accept or act upon the advice of the committee, the committee may, following a special meeting to consider the situation, refer the matter to Council for resolution.

3.2 Faculty Assembly

If two-thirds of the members at a meeting consider that the Dean has failed to seek advice from or act on advice given, by the Faculty Assembly they may request a special meeting to discuss the matter. At this special meeting, a simple majority of the members may decide that the matter be referred to the Vice-Chancellor for resolution.

3.3 Faculty Board

In the event that the Dean declines to accept or act upon the advice of the Faculty Board, the Faculty Board may, following a special meeting to consider the situation, refer the matter to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Scholarship) for resolution.

3.4 Dean

In the event that the Dean declines to accept or act upon the advice of the examiner, the examiner may appeal to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Scholarship) for resolution. The decision of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Scholarship) shall be final.
