1 Functions

The functions of the Status of Women in Employment and Education Committee shall be:

  1. Provide advice to the Vice-Chancellor (as CEO/Director of Equal Opportunity) on the Universitys obligations, issues of concern and reporting requirements of the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Act 1999 (EOWA) and the Agency.

  2. Make recommendations to the Social Justice Committee regarding the development of policy and strategic initiatives or services with regard to the operation of fair, consistent and equitable practices for womens career planning and development opportunities.

  3. Provide consultative input to the Universitys Social Justice and Womens Development planning and review process regarding women at USQ.

  4. Ensure that the Social Justice Committee is informed about issues or concerns pertaining to all USQ female staff and students.

  5. Assist the University to monitor its performance in meeting the relevant Social Justice and Womens Development gender diversity goals.

  6. Monitor the effectiveness of programs to improve outcomes for women within the University community.

  7. Liaise and partner with other relevant internal and external committees or agencies to enhance the status of women in employment and education.

  8. Promote and raise awareness within the USQ community of various programs and activities that enhances womens interest across the University.

2 Membership

2.1 Membership

The membership of the Status of Women in Employment and Education Committee shall consist of:

  1. Woman in Senior Management nominated by the Vice-Chancellor (Chair)

  2. Chair, Academic Board (or nominee)

  3. Associate Director, Human Resources

  4. Staff Equity & Diversity Officer as Executive Officer

  5. Two women representing academic staff to be elected by and from the academic staff

  6. Two women representing professional staff to be elected by and from the professional staff

  7. One woman representing Postdoctoral student cohort

  8. President, USQ Branch NTEU (or nominee)

  9. One representative from each of the general staff unions on campus

  10. President, USQ Women's Network (or nominee)

  11. Manager, Student Equity & Disability.

2.2 Co-option

The Committee can co-opt where needed any members required to achieve or maintain appropriate gender representation, where the membership does not include at least two women and two men. The Committee can invite individuals to provide additional appropriate expertise as necessary.

2.3 Term of Office

Elected members will hold office for a two-year period and may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms. In the event that an elected member vacates office within six months of their election, then the next ranked candidate will be invited to serve. Otherwise an election will be conducted for a replacement to serve the remainder of the term.
