To advise the University on multicultural and transnational issues, to promote USQ as a multicultural and transnational University in all internal and external dealings and to provide a forum for discussing multicultural and transnational matters.

1 Role

The Multicultural and Transnational Advisory Committee role is to advise the University on multicultural and transnational issues, to promote USQ as a multicultural and transnational University in all internal and external dealings and to provide a forum for discussing multicultural and transnational matters. The Committee has a particular role in considering the interests of students and staff from non-English speaking backgrounds and from different cultures and traditions.

2 Functions

The functions of the Multicultural and Transnational Advisory Committee shall be:

  1. to advise the University on multicultural matters;

  2. to promote USQ as a multicultural and transnational University;

  3. to provide University-wide forum to discuss multicultural and transnational issues;

  4. to assist the University in development and implementation of its unique USQ Multicultural Policy;

  5. to assist in developing the concept of transnational University and to undertake appropriate activities in this regard;

  6. to develop and implement the Universitys mission and vision statements in relation to multiculturalism and transnational education;

  7. to ensure the Universitys involvement in community events and developments associated with multiculturalism;

  8. to develop specific programs appropriate for the University and broader community in the area of multiculturalism;

  9. to assist in maximising the benefits of multiculturalism on campus and in the broader community;

  10. to consider special needs of students and staff from non-English speaking backgrounds; and

  11. to consider University's duty of care in relation to USQ international students.

3 Meetings

3.1 Frequency of Meetings

The Committee shall meet five times per year.

4 Membership

4.1 Membership

The membership of the Multicultural and Transnational Advisory Committee shall be:

  1. Director, USQ Multicultural Centre (Chair)

  2. Pro Vice-Chancellor (Social Justice)

  3. Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Management) or nominee

  4. Director, Open Access College

  5. Chair, Multicultural Staff Network (or nominee)

  6. President, Multicultural & Multilingual Student Association

  7. Staff Equity Officer

  8. International Recruitment Manager

  9. Manager, Student Equity & Disability

  10. Two members of academic staff nominated by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Social Justice)

  11. Two representatives from the international student body nominated by the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Management)

  12. One non-English Speaking Background (NESB) student recommended by the Multicultural & Multilingual Students Association

  13. Manager, Multicultural Centre (Executive Officer and Secretary)

The Committee shall have the power to co-opt.
