Purpose*:

Faculty Research Committees are responsible for driving research and research training within the Faculty and for linkages with Research Centres related to the Faculty.

1 Role

The Faculty Research Committee is responsible for driving research and research training within the Faculty and for linkages with Research Centres related to the Faculty. The Committee reports to the Dean through the Faculty Board.

2 Functions

The functions of the Faculty Research Committee are to:

  1. disseminate and implement policies and procedures concerning research and higher degree research supervision

  2. provide advice on any matter which may affect the quality, standing and execution of research and research higher degree training within the Faculty

  3. act within faculties to promote and develop research excellence

  4. provide advice on the Facultys annual research management plan

  5. identify policy issues for discussion at and receive policy issues for discussion from the University Research Committee.

3 Meetings

3.1 Frequency of Meetings

Committee meetings will be scheduled a minimum of six times a year.

4 Membership

4.1 Membership

The membership of the Faculty Research Committee shall be determined by the Dean but shall include, as a minimum:

  1. Associate Dean (Research) (Chairperson)

  2. Directors of Research Centre(s) related to the Faculty or equivalent

  3. Three staff active in research in the Faculty including at least one staff member active in early career research

  4. One postgraduate research student from the Faculty.

The Chairperson may invite other persons from the Faculty or from such other section/campus of the University to attend meetings of the Committee, as may be necessary, from time to time.

The Secretary to the Committee will be appointed by the Dean.
